Great Gift Ideas for Nurses
I hear it all the time. "If it wasn't for the nurses, my hospital stay would have been unbearable. But…how can I show them how much I appreciated their dedication? What can I possibly give them in return?"
Believe me, I know exactly where you are coming from. During a recent stay in a hospital I learned quickly that the people who helped me the most, on a day-to-day basis, were the nurses.
I realized that even in emergency situations, nurses remain calm, capable, and efficient, - while at the same time they manage never to lose their inborn compassion, which is the very thing that made most of them choose this demanding profession.
I, like you, wanted to find a way to express my appreciation of the devotion each and every one of them brought to their job. So I did a little digging, asked a lot of questions, and here is what I came up with:
1. A Gift Basket for the Break Room
Remember, the nursing staff that took such great care of you happens to work 3 shifts, and they take much-needed breaks during those shifts. Break Room Baskets come in a wide variety of prices, so it is easily within your means to give a gift that all of the nurses who cared for you will enjoy and appreciate. Try to choose a basket that contains a variety of types of coffee and tea, some nice small pots of jams and jellies, and a few different kinds of tea. As well, of course, there should be a few packages of various kinds of crackers.
2. A Gift Certificate for a Spa Treatment for that Special Nurse
This is a gift I would recommend for that one, special nurse who always goes out of her busy, overworked way to make your life and the lives of every one of her patients a little bit easier.
Remember, she spends an enormous amount of time on her feet, and the opportunity to relax for a change, and let someone else pamper her and take care of her needs for a change, will have a wonderful effect on her, and will reinvigorate her commitment to her profession. Once again, there is a wide variety of these gift certificates at varying price ranges, but even the least expensive should include some form of massage.
3. The Porcelain Figurine That Says, "You've Made It."
In speaking to the nurses during my hospital stay, I learned that the Lladro Nurse porcelain figurine was, for most of them, a very special symbol of achievement. Even nurses who had other Lladro pieces told me of their intentions to somehow get this one very special piece. As well, a good friend whose youngest daughter is working hard to graduate and pass the NCLEX has promised her that, once she has passed, this will be her graduation gift.
