What do experts use for molding/ sculpturing figurines?

I'm curious about figurines of Lladro or NAO, they are beautiful! How do they make those and what clay are they using? Do they bake them? If so how hot is the temperature and how long? What coloring and polishing materials are used?

If they are porcelain figures they are made out of porcelain. But they are made from molds. The process is called slip casting. You can read up on it by searching for this term. Usually the figures will be fired at 1700- 1800 F (bisque firing) and a glaze will be applied for the color. Then they get fired again at about 2200 - 2500 F (depending on the exact type of porcelain used). As the glaze is a form of glass it doesn't require polishing or anything of that kind. The oven which is used is called a kiln, and it obviously gets much hotter than your oven at home.

If you want to make something at home you would have to look at polymer clay. You could use that for making something which is comparable to the commercial figurines. See here for examples:
